EQUURES

WHAT IS THE EQUURES LABEL?

The EquuRES label is the only quality approach in favour of the environment and animal welfare specifically developed for equine facilities, whatever their location, size or activity.

The Label’s 10 areas of action enable professionals to take part in a global approach to continuous improvement. The EquuRES label provides practical solutions to issues such as energy saving, flow management, protection of resources and biodiversity, preservation of soil, water and air quality, and ensuring good animal health and welfare.

The EquuRES label is the only national environmental quality and equine welfare scheme specifically developed for the equine industry. It applies to all French equine establishments, whatever their size or activity: riding schools, breeders, trainers, racecourses, training centres and veterinary clinics for horses.

GONM

In 2016, the Pôle Hippique de Saint-Lô undertook to monitor the population of birds occupying buildings, parks and hedgerows by joining the GNOm (Groupe Ornithologique Normand) network of refuges. The agreement signed between the two organisations stipulates that observers must carry out regular inventories.

The first count on the Pôle Hippique site took place in June 2015, and 32 species were counted, including some particularly noteworthy species: the endangered melodious linnet and peacock bullfinch, and the hunting hobby falcon, a bird of prey that is highly localised in Normandy.

Each refuge is sponsored by a correspondent who undertakes to visit the site at least once a year with the owner. These sites are thus better known by the people who make management decisions with full knowledge of the facts: trying to do what is best in the interests of nature…
As summarised in the agreement, “the landowner undertakes to encourage wildlife on all or part of his property whenever possible by making management choices that respect the habitats concerned”.
